MGMT, Karen O guest on new Flaming Lips album
MGMT and Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O make guest appearances on The Flaming Lips' next album, frontman Wayne Coyne has revealed.
The US band are set to release a a double album, 'Embryonic' in the autumn. The release date is strongly tipped to be October 12, though this is yet to be officially confirmed.
"We have MGMT doing a song with us and we have Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs doing a couple songs with us," frontman Wayne Coyne told Swiss music site Die Klangschau of the band's guests. "For the Karen O tracks, I just called her up in her hotel room and we just did it right over the telephone. It's pretty absurd."
Coyne added that the two acts weren't the only guests on the album.
"We have this weird mathematician guy from Germany doing some spoken word stuff on the record," he added.
The band are set to play a series of UK live dates in November.

MGMT, Ratatat on Kid Cudi Album
In a recent interview on this very website, Kid Cudi told us he hoped to work with Ratatat, Band of Horses, and the Postal Service on his debut LP. Well, one out of three is better than none out of three. On the bright side, he got MGMT to guest on a track, too.
The cinema-themed LP is called Man on the Moon: The End of Day and is broken up into five "acts." Also, it's narrated by Common, who often sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Gotta wonder if the record's plot makes more sense than Kanye's nonsensical man-from-space Glow in the Dark tour storyline. We'll find out September 15, when the record lands via Dream On/G.O.O.D./Universal Motown.
